Ryehill House, Estate and Fishing
Ryehill House is a recently fully refurbished five bedroomed mid-victorian Scottish Counrty Gentleman's House which sits in its own small Estate of 60 acres bordered by almost 3/4 mile of single bank fishing on the River Nith amidst dramatic upland scenery.
Ryehill House overlooks the river and has five good seized bedrooms. The beat has 3/4 mile of fishing and rents through fishpal with four letting rods. A fifth house rod is included at no extra charge so five rods in total can be fished. All the bedrooms are doubles or twins so it can actually accomodate up to 10 people. The House is offered on a fully private self catering basis and has a large living room with wood burnng stove, kitchen/diner, games room with both a pool table and table football, the five double bedrooms, two of which are ensuite and two further bathrooms. There are picnic benches and an outside dining table.
The Fishing is on a quiet and idyllic beat, stretching a mile or so south of Sanquhar. It comprises 5 pools and 2 shelf pools and is suitable for fly, worm, or spinning.
Shelter on the beat is provided by two fishing lodges. The main lodge is often considered to be the best on the River Nith and is is furnished with a 3 piece suite, table and stools with outdoor seating.
The House overlooks the river which is only a few minutes walk from the front door. Vehicular access to the river is via a road through the field from the A76 to a car compound, which is situated next to the main lodge. Pedestrian access to the river is excellent with stiles and steps along the length of the beat. This makes it suitable for all ages.
In Summer (May to August) Brown Trout and Seatrout are the most common catches. The fishery get good runs of Seatrout from June onwards, which are generally caught by fly in fading light or just after dark. Salmon do run during these months, with many guests catching them, but this is generally dependant on river levels. Grayling of up to 3lb also thrive in these waters and offer popular sport in winter.
During September to November, Salmon is the typical catch for this part of the season. The House and Fishing can be booked for seven or fourteen days from Sunday to Sunday to Sunday. Guests can arrive from 4pm on Sunday and vacate by 10am the follwoing Sunday. Early booking is advisable at this to avoid disappointment.
