Update from the Friars Carse beat.
I’m just back from the Hotel after hosting clients there for 3 days. First day the river was running high and coloured after the recent rain so very little to be seen, however things started to improve as the week went on with just a slight lift again. Salmon were being seen in Island, Marsdens, House & Riding Stone Pools, some of these fish looked to be big fish.
Reports of nice browns up to 2lb and good numbers of grayling being hooked although not always landed, but that’s fishing.
I’m back up there next week with another group for 4 days so hopefully after this next band of rain comes through it just gives us enough of a lift to encourage more salmon into the system.
If you’ve never fished Friars beat its worth a go, it gives you some nice varied water to fish from slow deep runs to some nice streamy water. Fly, spin or worm is allowed on the beat and if you need any information of where to fish then just give me a call, I’m happy to help out fellow anglers.
Note: The River Nith is a category 3 river and that all salmon are to be safely returned.
Please remember when fishing the beat to let the Hotel know of your catch return even if you’ve not been successful, it helps them in knowing how the beat is fishing.
Fly Fishing Courses at the beat that have spaces left are: September 8th to 10th contact me for further information and to book your place.
Tight lines.
