UPDATE - River Nith Friars Carse End of 2024 Season

Update from the beat.

Returning anglers to the beat Mr Fratel & Mr Richardson followed up their recent trip with even more success. On the 30th October Mr Fratel had 2 sea trout about a 1lb each and 2 salmon 8lb & 10lb. He had another 9lb salmon the next day.

Mr Richardson also had a fish of 18lb on the 30th.

All fish were caught on the fly.

Well done to both anglers they have certainly done well on their visits.

Last few days of the season produced 4 fish to the beat a 6lb sea trout for John Monk, who then followed it up a day later with an 11lb salmon. David Godfrey had a 6lb salmon from the Island Pool and I heard of another fish caught at the top of the beat in the Forest Pool, this was the anglers first salmon so well done to him.

There were lots of fush seen throughout the beat over the 3 days that I was there, some clearly in their spawning colours but others looked remarkably clean for the time of year, there was some big specimens amongst them as well. Here’s hoping that they do what they need to do and the river doesn’t get too many floods that wash out he redds.

If you’re grayling fishing over the winter try and avoid areas where redds have been cut let’s give them all as much help as we can

Friars beat gives you some nice varied water to fish from slow deep runs to some nice streamy water. Fly, spin or worm is allowed on the beat and if you need any information of where to fish then just give me a call, I’m happy to help out fellow anglers.

The Hotel has informed me that all species are catch and release so please be careful when handling & returning fish, give them time to recover.

Please remember when fishing the beat to let the Hotel know of your catch return even if you’ve not been successful, it helps them in knowing how the beat is fishing.

Dates have been agreed with the Hotel for the courses for 2025 after requests from previous anglers.

Wishing you all the very best for Christmas and a Prosperous New Year

Tight lines.
