Ticket holders shall have the right to fish with rod and line for salmon, sea fish, grayling and trout from 15th March until 30th September next in those parts of the River Nith that belong to the Club and The Buccleuch Estates Ltd, between the county march with Ayrshire and Enterkinfoot, and from 1st April in the following tributaries to the extent specified below:- viz Kello ( below the junction with Polstacher Burn); Crawick (below the junction with Wanlockburn excepting the stretches through the lands of Knockenhair Orchrad and Knockenstob); Euchan (below Glenglass Farmhouse); and Mennock (below Glenim Bridge); buit excluding all the streamlets entering these tributaries with the excpetion of Spangoburn, which may be fished up to Blackgannoch; and from 1st October for salmon and grayling only, to the Nith above Crawickfoot and after 31st August all the tributaries from the Permission, subject to the following conditions, viz:
I (a) that fishers shall immediately return to the water all salmon fry and other fry, and all unclean fish and fish under 20cm in length, taken by them; and that they shall not fish within 45 metres of any waterfall or mill caul. (b) That fishers observe a bag limit of 2 sea trout (weight limit of 3lb per fish) and 2 salmon per day (c) That fishers do not fish for sea trout after 31st August.
II That Sunday fishing is expressly prohibited
III That no fish caught shall be sold
IV (a) That no fishing by nets, or rake, or drag hooks or by cross fishings, or any illegal methods shall be practised. All foul hooked fish shall be returned carefully to the water. No Gaff hooks shall be used.
- (b) No lead core line or similar quick sinking line or prawn or shrimp baits is allowed in any circumstances.
- (c) Two marks are shown on bridges and certain rocks: the higher mark is the minnow mark and the lower is the low water mark.
- (d) MINNOW FISHING: Fishing with natural or artificial minnow or any other artificial lure shall not be allowed when the level of the river is below the low water mark. From 30th September natural minnow will not be fished below the minnow mark and will cease from 31st October. (i) ARTIFICIAL MINNOW or LURE: When the level of the river is above the minnow mark any artificial minnow or lure used shall not exceed 90mm in length with one treble hook only (except in the case of a rapalla lure where two treble hooks are permitted) not exceeding No.4 while any lead used shall not exceed 50mm in length if spiral or 13mm in diameter if round. When the level of the river is below the minnow mark but above the low water mark any artificial minnow or lure used shall not be greater than 50mm in length with one treble hook only not exceeding No.6 and no lead larger than AA shot as used for worm fishing. No fishing by artificial minnow or lure shall be permitted when the river is below the low water mark after 31st October and no rapalla lure shall be used after that date when the water is between the low water mark and the minnow mark. (ii) NATURAL MINNOW: Fishing shall be allowed by natural minnow as purchased from a recognised tackle dealer. The weight of the minnow not to exceed 7 grams.
- (e) WORM FISHING: From 30th September worm will not be fished below the minnow mark. In November no worm fishing shall be allowed within 23 metres of the confluence of the Enterkin Burn, Mennock Water, Euchan and Crawick Water with River Nith. While fishing with worm a tackle of two or three hooks may be used if tied on a single strand of gut. Below the minnow mark no swivel shall be used. When the level of the water is above the minnow mark or in yellow flood three hooks not above No 10 size shall be permitted and the lead used not exceed three swan shot. When the level of the water is between the low water mark three hooks not above No12 size shall be permitted and the lead used shall not exceed two pieces of AA shot. No snatching or other unfair methods shall be practised. No braided lines to be used, except if used with nylon leader.
- (f) FLY FISHING: Fishing with Fly is allowed whatever the level of the river until 30th November but not above Crawickfoot after 01st November.
- (g) Anglers must always observe the usual courtesies towards other anglers and fish the pools fairly in turn, following one another as is customary when salmon fishing, taking one or two steps downstream between each cast on doing so, not staying overlong at any one pool and not using any unsporting practice.
V that they observe all rules and regulations approved and published by the Committee.
- That they exhibit their tickets and evidence of identity when requested by management, allow them to inspect the fish and tackle in their possession, and that they assist such Police Officers, Water Bailiffs, game-keepers or members of the Committee in the execution of their duty in every way possible.
VI Children under 10 years shall be accompanied at the water by an adult.
VII Night fishing will only be allowed to residents in the Parishes of Sanquhar, Kirkconnel and Durisdeer and to visitors who hold season tickets including New Cumnock Season ticket holders including Complimentary ticket holders but NOT Riparian Owner tickets and that from 01st May to 31st August (both dates inclusive). During the same period, holders of other tickets may fish from 6am until midnight. During the remainder of the season no fishing shall be allowed during the night, which is hereby declared to commence half an hour after sunset (lighting up time) and to conclude half an hour before sunrise. All persons must leave the waterside during the night except as allowed from 01st May to 31st August.
VIII FIRES: Fires must NOT be kindled by the waterside. No litter is to be discarded by fishers. IX Anglers must not trespass on adjoining lands when going to or returning from Nith or tributaries.
X Fishing for grayling only will be permitted to season ticket holders from 01st January to 28th February in the River Nith provided light rods and light tackle is used.
XI Returns of fish caught MUST be completed and sent to the Secretary not later than 10TH DECEMBER. Failure to do so will render defaulters liable to a SURCHARGE of à15 or at the discretion of the Committee to disqualification from future membership.
XII Members of the Club are residents in the Parishes of Sanquhar, Kirkconnel and Durisdeer who hold season tickets. The Committee reserves the right to refuse membership without assigning a reason.
XIII Any member of the Committee shall have the power to withdraw a ticket from any ticketholder (excluding a member) without assigning a reason.
NO DOGS ALLOWED.
By arrangements made for the current season, ticket holders shall also have the right to fish, subject to the same seasonal limitation and under the same conditions as are herinbefore set forth, those parts of the River Nith which are ex adverso of:
(1) the lands of Eliock and the farm of Gossehill (the Back Burn excluded):
(2) the farm of Newark, belonging to James Thomson (Newark) Ltd.;
(3) the farm of Castlemains, belonging to the trustees of the Marquess of Bute;
(4) the farm Knockenjig, belonging to David M. Dickie, Esq.;
(5) the farms of Rigg and Nether Cairn, belonging to Professor M. Woodcock; and
(6) Brocks Fire Works
