Lower Woodend has seven named pools over 1/2 mile: The Hut, The Fence, The Rocks, Three Stanes, Upper Intake, Sandy’s Hole and Lower Intake.
The Hut Pool is a classic middle Dee holding pool which is equally good for salmon and sea trout. It offers easy wading and is many people’s favourite pool.
The comfortable bothy with its wood burning stove offers a welcome refuge on colder days or in front the picnic bench provides a pleasant setting for lunch on those warmer days.
Lower Woodend is a two rod beat. For larger parties it can be combined with Woodend to cater for parties of up to four rods.
Lower Woodend does not have a full time ghillie however arrangements can be made to show you the water before you start to fish. The beat is favoured by both beginners and experienced anglers because of it’s easy wading and the ease with which the water can be read.
A ghillie can be made available by arrangement in advance.
As a conservation measure Lower Woodend has only been relatively lightly fished over recent years, however, the present owner wishes to increase the fishing effort particularly in the spring.
For larger parties, Lower Woodend can be combined with Woodend (subject to availability), which is the beat immediately upstream on the same side. Both beats together fish four rods, two on Woodend and two on Lower Woodend; an estate road connects the two beats.
