The Knappach Beat is just over half a mile long on the right bank of the River Dee. It is 2 rod beat.
The beat has been changed by Storm Frank and has now been reduced to four pools, two of which are only fishable in medium to low water. However, the bottom pool (Lower Birkenbaud) has been improved and is an excellent holding pool.
It is now accessable by wading all the way through and although the water is quite deep there is no current so it is quite safe! Many of the fish tend to lie on the Knappach side of the current . The Floating Bank, which is the top pool , is particularily good when the fish are on the move as it is at the top of a fast running piece of water and they tend to stop for a rest. It is also good for sea trout in the evening. The two middle pools are too fast in high water but have several excellent lies in medium to low water.
There is no ghillie provided. However, you will be shown the water upon arrival if you have contacted the beat prior to arrival when booking.
The beat follows the River Dee conservation code.
