Salmon Fishing on the River Sog, Iceland

The Sog river is recognized as one of the finest Atlantic salmon rivers in Iceland. It’s the largest spring fed river in Iceland and is renowned for its beautiful surroundings, amazing bird life, and multi sea winter salmon. The river has a very healthy stock of Arctic char and every year char of size 6-7 pounds are caught.

The river is 65 km east from the capital Reykjavik.

Salmon fishing with one rod or shared rod

Rod Share
It is quite common to share a rod & room with a partner which keeps the cost down as you‘ll have 12 hours of salmon fishing daily.

Equipment
Anglers use switch or double handed rods, using floating or intermediate lines with small to medium size flies early in the season.

Flies to use
Most common flies are Red & Black Frances, Blue Charm, Red & Green But, Snaelda, Sunray Shadow and other traditional Icelandic flies.
