Delfur Missives

1. The Proprietors reserves to themselves the right to fish a rod in the evening after 5pm. This will be done in conjunction with the Head Ghillie so as not to inconvenience guests.
2. No more than five rods will be allowed to fish at any one time. If a ghillie is allowed to fish he will be counted as a rod.
3. The beat is fly only.
4. No sub-letting is permitted.
5. The beat must not be fished for more than eight hours in any one-day. These hours should, where possible, be concentrated into the ghillies working day, which is from 9 a.m. to 5.00 p.m. No interchange of rods during the day is permitted.
6. Delfur Fishings supports the Spey Boards policy of voluntary restraint, which is attached for your information. In order to prevent any misunderstandings they have defined their policy, which falls within the Boards guidelines, as follows:- a. Throughout the season all fish over 10lbs and all hen fish should be returned. b. Prior to the 1st June all fish should be returned. Some rods may wish to retain a fish for personal consumption, and therefore up until 1st June one fish may be retained per rod per week (i.e. a total of 5 for the week) providing any fish retained is neither a hen nor over 10lbs. Any damaged or spent fish that are retained will count towards this limit. c. After 1st June grilse may be retained but if they are undamaged and will not be used for personal consumption they should be returned. The only exceptions to these rules are as follows: i. Any fish damaged by predators. ii. The fish of a life time (i.e. First Fish). iii. A spent fish incapable of being returned.
7. No fish caught at Delfur will be sold or traded in any way.
8. All foul hooked fish must be returned.
9. All gravid fish must be returned. The Ghillies decision on whether a fish is gravid or not is final.
10. Tenants are not permitted to take ghillies away from the beat for any purpose.
11. Names and addresses of permitted number of rods should be provided when the rent is paid. When making arrangements for their fishing, tenants should contact the Head Ghillie:- Mark Melville
12. All rods and any other visitors to the fishings shall attend a safety briefing by the Head Ghillie as soon as possible after their arrival at the beat, and shall sign the register to confirm they have received that briefing before any fishing takes place or before visitors leave the vicinity of the fishing hut. All rods are also strongly advised to read the booklet Safety When Angling on Inland Waters which is provided in the hut for their information.
13. All rods will also be expected to comply with the Spey District Fishery Boards regulations with regard to Gyrodactylus Salaris.
14. Fishing can be hazardous and the Spey is a particularly fast flowing river. Ghillies are obliged to wear protective eyeglasses and a cap when fishing and to wear flotation jackets whilst wading or in a boat. Rods are strongly advised in the interests of their own safety to take the same precautions, and to use wading sticks when appropriate. Furthermore, no rod may fish from a boat unless wearing a flotation aid. Boats may only be used when accompanied by a ghillie. Flotation aids are available from the Head Ghillie, and rods are encouraged to use them.
15. Certain local residents and ghillies, when off duty, are given permits to fish for sea trout after 7.00pm. These people have been asked to leave the river if a guest arrives in that pool and move to another pool. Any breaches of this request should be reported to the Head Ghillie.
16. While every effort is made to regulate canoeing on the river, this let is subject to any arrangements that have been made with recognised canoeing organisations.
17. When it is necessary to use Estate Ghillies or outside Contractors to haul weed out of the river tenants are asked to give them every co-operation.
