Using Abergavenny as a central Usk valley point of access the whole valley has excellent connections.
By road
The Usk Valley is well connected to major motorways.
From London: Take the M4 to junction 24 and then the A449 to Usk and onward to Abergavenny, Crickhowell and Brecon. Typical time from Heathrow Airport is 2hrs 15min. Please note that the Severn Bridge levies a toll travelling into Wales of £5.40 (cars).
From the North including Liverpool, Manchester, Birmingham and the Midlands: Pick up the M5 from the M6 or M42. Take the M50 at junction 9 on the M5 and head towards Ross on Wye, then the A40 through Monmouth and Raglan where the A40 continues to Abergavenny or Usk. Approximate time from Birmingham International Airport is 90 minutes.
By train
Abergavenny is connected to the mainline to London (23mins via a local train) at Newport. London Paddington is then approximately 1hr 50mins. Typically there are two trains per hour.
Abergavenny is also connected to Manchester Piccadilly and the north. Typically there are also two trains running each hour.
By air
Both Bristol and Cardiff international airports are within an hour's drive of Usk, Abergavenny and Crickhowell. Easyjet, BMI and other airlines have significant hubs at these airports connecting to all main European cities. Car hire and taxi services are available at both locations.
