1 Please make yourself and your party known to Mr. MacKinnon on arrival. You should carry your permit whenever fishing.
2 Fly fishing only is permitted. Single fishing hooks (without barbs) would be preferred. Single hooks are stipulated until end June. All fishermen should fish in a responsible and sportsmanlike manner.
3 Traditionally fishing commences at 9.30am and finishes at 6.00pm. Permission may be obtained from Mr. MacKinnon to fish outwith these times at certain times of year. The owner reserves the right for house rods to be fishing occasionally.
4 Details of all catches must be reported to the fishery. All salmon/grilse should be returned as The Finsbay/Flodabay and Stockinish systems are all catagory 3 fishery under the Salmon conservation Laws. Therefore a catch and release policy is in place. Salmon and sea trout parr, Sea trout under 20 ozs (ca 750gr) must be returned to the water. Finnock, gravid fish and kelts should be returned to the water.
5 All anglers MUST comply with the GS conditions before commencing fishing, which is a mandatory requirement across all of the Outer Hebrides. The form will be sent to you in your booking confirmation, and is also available from the Western Isles DSFB website here. The conditions are:
- 5.1 - confirm that your tackle has not been used outside the UK in the last 7 days, or
- 5.2 - confirm that your tackle has been properly sterilised using one of the approved methods, and
- 5.3 - complete and return the GS Declaration form to Finsbay Fishings before fishing - you are not permitted to fish until this form has been returned to the Estate office in person or via email.
- 5.4 - by purchasing a ticket to fish you accept that you will comply with this conditions.
6 The Country Code should be followed at all times. Please ensure gates are closed and fences are not damaged, that you do not light fires. Please also take your litter home, or dispose of it in the many wheelie bins which are situated at picnic sites and viewing points around the island.
7 Accompanying dogs must be kept on a lead.
8 Please also note that if you park in passing places on single track roads, enough room should be left to allow another car to use the passing place. Any fisherman who causes or becomes aware of damage, however caused, to any property used by the fishings, should report it to Mr. MacKinnon as soon as possible. Handle boats and motors with care.
9 The fishery is in no way responsible for the welfare of the anglers and gillies, who should provide themselves with lifejackets or other safety equipment and must judge unfavourable weather conditions for themselves. Please be aware that the weather can change very quickly. A maximum of two rods are permitted to fish from a boat at any one time. Landing is only permitted on prepared places and all boats must be returned to starting point.
10 Any fisherman observing any disturbance or foul play on the part of other fishermen should report the indicident to the head gillie as soon as possible. Children under 15 years old can fish for free as long as they are in receipt of a valid FOC permit, wear a life vest and are accompanied by a responsible adult.
