概述

Visually stunning with superb fly water and spectacular holding pools, the Minnoch is a rare gem in Scotland's forgotten corner. The tranquil setting of the fishing adds to its charm, despite it being set only 15 minutes’ drive from the amenities of Newton Stewart.

Glentrool Estate fishing consists of syndicate fishing and permit fishing on two beats. The Beats are well maintained with car parking available only a short walk from many pools. Day permits are available only on the lower beat. (Beat 1).

Beat 1 boasts twelve named pools and is set on the lower part of the Minnoch from the Junction, one and a half miles upstream to the Roman Bridge. Salmon may appear here around mid April if it is mild, but later in the month if the weather is cold, as they head in from the lower parts of the Cree system. This beat is best fished when the water is falling. From mid-July until mid-August, if there has been suitable water, the grilse have their turn and some impressive catches are made every year. Sizeable wild brown trout are also taken during the summer months.

Permitted methods include fishing the fly and spinning. All fish caught before the 1st June must be returned. There is a limit of 1 fish (preferably grilse) per week from June until 1st September, after which all hens and coloured fish must be returned.

All sea trout must be returned. Please note that the season finishes at the end of September on the Minnoch to protect spawning fish.

Flies: The Ally Shrimp is always popular on the Minnoch. For spinning, black or red Flying Cs and copper Tobys. Bladed spinners and Rapalas must have single hooks only. No bait fishing is permitted.
