Dindinnie Reservoir, built in 1907, is a small 30 acre reservoir, just 10 minutes from Stranraer. Situated at NX 0223 6058 the reservoir can be accessed off the A718 with the last quarter mile of road being unmetalled so care is required. However, there is ample parking available in the designated car park.
Dindinnie Reservoir has been closed by the water board due to the recurrence of blue green algae. Scottishwater has said it is now OK to fish but care must be taken and it is recommended to wash hands and equipment once you have been fishing there.
The water is stocked with hard fighting rainbow and brown trout. It also has a population of wild brown trout. This reservoir also has a hidden bonus at the far end called The “Wee Dam” which is also stocked. This area requires a cautious approach as the water is very deep in places and surrounded by heavy vegetation, offering the opportunity for the experienced angler to test their skills.
If you are resident at Green Loch House, Soulseat associated tickets are available for those who have a caravan or holiday home in the area. A day ticket permits anglers to bank fish between Soulseat Loch and the fourwaters (Magillie, Dindinnie, Knockquassen and Penwhirn).
This is a flyfishing only reservoir and restrictions apply, the bag limit set at two fish per day across the entire spread of waters, except evening tickets which have a1 fish limit. Catch and Release is encouraged. Anglers should cease fishing once they have reached their two fish limit for the day. Only one rod may be used which must be hand held at all times.
