Overview

The New Cumnock Angling Association fishes the top end of the River Nith to its source in the south Ayrshire hills. Fishing is on both banks above new Cumnock with some slow stretches offering some good pools and streams.

Salmon run up to these waters to spawn, but the Club has chosen not to exercise their right to fish for Salmon or Sea Trout as a conservation measure to protect the species. Pike, Perch, Grayling and Brown Trout up to 2lbs, however can be found and will offer a good day's sport. The Brownies are mostly wild but the beat is also stocked with fish from the Club's own hatchery, which has been running for 25 years.

A 3lb 8oz Grayling was caught and won the Daily Record Fish of the Week from this water.

Fly, Worm and Spinning are permitted.

The Club also offers fishing on three other rivers (Deuch, Ken and Afton) and two lochs (Creoch and Afton Reservoir).
