Overview

This beat is fished as a syndicate with limited numbers of tickets sold for salmon fishing.

This fishery is divided into two sections and contains an exciting mix of different waters for fishing. The upper section (Beat 1) contains eight named pools with good runs between them, starting at the High Bank Pool. Further downstream there is the Jubilee, Hardys, Grange, Rock Pool and Ash tree, which are all particularly nice fly water. The lower section starts at the Crouse Pool which holds fish at all water heights. Here the water is deeper holding some large brown trout, as well as, various coarse fish species including large pike (regularly pike over 20lb caught), perch and roach.

The Bladnoch is a spate river which fishes best for salmon during and after a rise of water. Torhousekie has good holding water for spring salmon and attracts anglers from the season opening in February, although April/May are usually more productive. Summer salmon and first grilse are caught from May onwards. Salmon up to 15lb and wild brown trout up to 5lbs have been caught from this water. Pike are also caught on these beats and can provide excellent sport on the fly in the summer during low flows.

Banksides are well maintained on the upper beat but access requires a 10 minute walk. Parking is available at two locations - at Mochrum Park House near the top of the beat or just off the sharp bend at Torhousekie Steading near the middle of the beat.

Fishing methods

This water is suitable for all fishing methods! Fly water lies between the main upper pools.
