Overview

Penwhirn Reservoir is a large scenic hill reservoir about 20 minutes’ drive from Stranraer. Situated at NX1220 6969, the reservoir can be accessed by taking a single track, well surfaced, road of the A77 north of Stranraer. This road continues for 4-5 miles offering stunning views of wild moorland.

Penwhirn Reservoir is a peaceful dark peaty reservoir with banks which can be more challenging to walk over the peat. This reservoir offers the opportunity for fly anglers to test their skills against wild brown trout. The fish here are generally small sized but there is the occasional large trout.

A day ticket permits anglers to bank fish between Penwhirn reservoir and the four waters (Dindinnie, Knockquassen, Magillie and Soulseat loch). If you are resident at Green Loch House, Soulseat associated tickets are available for those who have a caravan or holiday home in the area.
