Overview

Ottery (Beats 13): The Ottery Beats are the only ones in Cornwall, It holds good stocks of brown trout, and arguably the biggest, with some fish over the 14”. The Ottery also has reasonable stocks of Grayling with some reaching a considerable size for the river. The Ottery is a small river, averaging 6-8m in width, generally slow flowing but with some big pools and meanders. Plenty of tree cover, with certain deep stretches inaccessible due to high banks, but ongoing maintenance and access improvements continue to be in place. Beat 13 is a tight quartered Beat with ample in river and overhead plant growth, because of this the beat does lend itself to more experienced anglers who can fish technical methods well. Roll cast, side cast, bow & arrow will all need utilising to cover the best waters. Anglers will need to wade to access the best waters and full chest waders are advisable.
