Overview

Thrushel (Beat 4): The Thrushel holds good numbers of brown trout and Grayling, with the occasional Sea trout. Smaller than the Lyd, the Thrushel requires more wading and technical casting ability. The pocket waters in the lower to middle portion of the Beat are fairly unique when compared to the other rivers in the immediate vicinity, making for some very fun dry, duo or light tight line nymph fishing. The middle section, above the weir is made up of slower, deep pools whereas the upper section is faster with smaller pools. Half of the water coming down the Thrushel is being influenced by water releases from Roadford reservoir, which flows into the river Wolf (tributary of the Thrushell) a couple miles upstream from the beat. Due to this, the Thrushell’s river levels during hot summers generally remain higher than on other Tamar tributaries, which does wonders for the fishing at a tricky time of year.
