Overview

Beat 1 on the river Lyd is a diverse Beat with many appealing features, the access and wading is good in the lower section with the upper being tougher. The lower section runs alongside the local park, so footfall and dog activity can peak on weekends and on summer evenings. The activity does seem to affect fishing much, as Beat 1 can be extremely productive.  King Pool and Claires are particularly good for sea trout, which are susceptible to a nymph fished deep in the slower bellies or heads of the pools during the daytime. The upper section, above the thrushell confluence, is the most productive for trout, however access is tricky, and we would only advise very competent waders with good mobility to venture up to the top.
