Overview

Beat 17. Upper Lyd & Lew. Two small streams with wild brown trout and some Grayling fishing. This Beat is both extensive and diverse, with the Lyd showcasing fast, clear waters that run off Dartmoor, and the Lew starkly different, being much slower paced, deeper and slightly turbid. The insect life here is prolific and the beat sees good hatches of invertebrates through most of the season, with it kicking off in mid-April and not slowing down in late September. Much of the water here is suited for dry fly or small duo, with some sections favouring close quartered tight line nymphing.
