With a wide variety of thirty pools (which all fish at different heights), the beat is perfectly suited for flyfishing with fast runs and deeper holding areas.
Most of the pools can be easily fished from the bank or along the waters edge. Pools are accessed via parking through out the beat - with a short walk required to reach some pools.
Spring salmon can be landed in April with numbers increasing throughout May.
Grilse and summer salmon appear from June onwards giving good sport.
September and October see the pools fill up with autumn fish which provide fantastic angling.
Opportunities to catch Brown trout also provides very good sport throughout the season.
Prime Minister Neville Chamberlain regularly fished on Littlewood Estate waters in the 1930s, demonstrating that Littlewood is also the perfect place to relax and unwind.
The upper beat boundary is situated at Ardhuncart where the Mossat Burn enters the River Don, the lower being opposite the Leochel Burn (south bank).
As on other stretches of the River Don, Littlewood beat has been very lightly fished in recent years and the catch figure reflects this.
If visiting from afar, accommodation can be found nearby in Alford and the surrounding area. The beat is only 30 minutes from Aboyne and Royal Deeside, and 45 minutes from Aberdeen airport.
