Overview

Ballogie is the middle of the three Ballogie Estate beats (Carlogie, Ballogie and Commonty). It is situated on the right (south) bank of the river between Boat of Kincardine and the Burn of Cattie. Ballogie is divided into three rod beats, which are fished in rotation. This reduces to a two-rod beat from the end of June to the end of September. With fishing opportunities both above and below Potarch Bridge, Ballogie is a beautiful beat situated in a forest and farmland setting. There is good vehicle access to both the top and bottom of the beat, with car parking at Potarch and a footpath along the whole length of the beat.

There is access to two fishing huts:

Gannets Hut

  • Wood burning stove
  • STADLER outdoor oven and BBQ kit
  • Composting toilet

Potarch Hut

  • Wood burning stove

A shared ghillie is included in the price of the beat, from 1st February to the last week of June and also from the beginning of September to the end of the season. From June to September there is an additional charge if ghillie services are required.

Potarch Café, beside Potarch Lodge, is also an extremely popular lunch spot for anglers, with outside seating.

Wading is dependent on river heights and varies from easy pools to some where wading should be undertaken with caution.

Why you need to fish here

With fishing both above and below Potarch Bridge, Ballogie is a beautiful beat set in forest and farmland. It is a classic fly fishing stretch of the Dee, which caters for all tastes, from streamy pools at the Gannets, Flats and Kelpie to the deeper waters of the Sand, Slips and Bridge pools.
