Sunderland Hall is a relaxed and informal family run beat unique in having fishing on both the Tweed and the River Ettrick down to their junction. With just over a mile of fishing on the South Bank of the Tweed down to the famous Meetings Pool and nearly half a mile on the Ettrick (half of it double bank) also down to the Meetings pool, this beat offers good value for money when the conditions are right.
This old fashioned beat is run on a friendly and informal DIY basis .There is no ghillie and tenants are expected to be friendly and help each other. The banks are not strimmed to the extent that many beats do nowadays, and getting into and out of some of the pools requires a certain amount of agility and clambering due to it being on the outside of the bend and constantly eroding banks. From September onwards paths into and out of each pool are strimmed but otherwise it is mostly as nature intended. It is fairly easy to get to know and there are directions about where to fish in the hut aswell as a large map which it is reccomended to take a photograph of, on your phone before setting off. This is a fun and attractive beat to explore and remains a beat that will reward the adventurous.
The beat is best fished by wading.

As most of the spring and summer fish on Tweed run the Ettrick water, having part of the beat on Ettrick, there is an opportunity to catch a spring or summer fish before the main run head up Upper Tweed.
