Lower Lees Booking Conditions 2027 Season
The below are meant to help you enjoy your day in a safe environment.
1. Please meet the Ghillie at 9 am at the main hut at Upper North Wark. The car park for this is situated adjoining the A698 Coldstream to Kelso road, about 2 miles east of Birgham. From here we will travel to the Lower Lees.
2. Cars must adhere to the existing permitted tracks and be parked to avoid causing an obstruction.
3. Please ensure that you ring/message the Ghillie before you come, so he knows to expect you and he can advise you on the correct equipment to bring. Please remember that it is customary to give him a tip at the end of your fishing. You must report any catches direct to the Head Ghillie as these are important records. If you have any problems with your fishing, please tell the Ghillie straightaway.
4. Fishing is from 9am to 5pm with the Ghillie having an hour off at lunch time. There may be flexibility during the summer and the Ghillie may be able to work some evenings instead of the mornings when fishing conditions may be better. Please request this in advance but there is no obligation on him to do so. During November the hours of fishing are 09.30am to 16.00.
5. No Sunday fishing.
6. The Head Ghillie`s decision is final in all matters including safety aspects which relate to this fishery. In conditions of high water/a rising river and/or high winds, it will be left for the ghillie to decide if it is safe to use boats or to fish at all including from the banks.
7. Fishing on the River Tweed is by fly only on or before 14 February and on or after 15 September. It is illegal to sell fish in any form. No prawns, worms or shrimps can be used at any time and gaffs are banned. The Tweed Angling Code also applies.
8. The River Tweed Commissioner`s Spring Salmon Conservation rules are mandatory on this beat and apply from 1 February to 30 June inclusive.
9. The Tenant is responsible for bringing his or her own safety equipment, such as life jackets and safety glasses. Anglers are strongly encouraged to wear buoyancy aids at all times and even when fishing from the bank. You may be required to sign a waiver if you do not wear a life jacket.
10. No liability shall be incurred by the owner for any loss, damage or injury however caused to the angler or his guests and their property during the period of the let.
11. Weather conditions may mean the river is not fishable. This can mean very high or very low water. The Head Ghillie may decide that fishing cannot take place. There can be no refunds in these circumstances
12. There is no guarantee that a fish will be caught. Any fish caught must be returned to the river by order of the Tweed Commissioners. This is to ensure the viability and stability of fishing stocks moving forward.
13. The beat allows 2 rods to fish and there is 1 ghillie. The ghillie’s time will be shared with the rods over the day but this may mean you will be unaccompanied for part of the day. If you would like to be certain of being accompanied all day, subject to availability, we may be able to secure the services of an additional ghillie. There will be an additional charge in these circumstances.
14. Please ensure at all times, proper etiquette and consideration is taken when fishing close by the Cornhill fishermen and observing the boundary marker post.
15. Due to the shared management of Upper North Wark & Lower Lees fishing we will be using the Upper North Wark fishing hut as a main base for Lower Lees. When conditions and availability allows there may be in certain circumstances a 2nd ghillie working on Lower Lees.
