This is a famous beat downstream from Chollerford Bridge and past the Roman Baths, double bank fishing with good fly water and boat and huts. A very highly regarded water, Chesters fishes from late March onwards. The stretch is divided into 2 beats with 2 rods on each beat.
THE UPPER BEAT.
This is access from the north bank just off the B6318 Road about 100 yards from the Chollerford roundabout. Down the road through the farm.
The beat has a hut and easy parking and good access to all the pools from both banks.
The ideal water height for this part of the beat is from 9" to 1&1/2ft. The fish in this height of water like to hold up in the island pools and the pipes opposite the romans ruins.
Wading can be hard in places and a wading stick and life vest are a must.
Floating lines with sink tips are always handy to have.
Lower Beat.
The hut is accessed off the B6318. Just past the roman baths entrance. Once you have found the large lions and gated entrance, you proceed down the track until you reach the hut.
This part of the beat suits low water.
The boat pool offers a variety of fishing and can hold good numbers off fish.
Access to bottom pools: you can either walk or drive down to them.
