Dunoon & District Angling Club has access to four rivers, fishing for Atlantic salmon, sea trout & wild brown trout. The DDAC club also has access to four lochs, with wild brown trout & rainbow trout for members only.
The four salmon rivers include the Ruel, The Cur, The Finart, and The Massan.
River Ruel - A super stretch of 1 1/2 miles, this fine river is available for fly fishing which is situated approximately 20 miles from Dunoon. Fishy, foamy pools and slow deep runs await anglers who make the trip over to Glendaruel. The river offers a good chance of a Sea Trout or Salmon to a carefully presented fly in the right conditions in Summer or early Autumn. Migratory fish runs on this river are now improving after lengthy, dedicated conservation work carried out by local bailiffs and club members. If the migratory species do not respond, then you can target the Brownies with a dry fly!
River Cur – DDAC have access to a pleasant stretch of this river located at the northern end of Loch Eck just to the side of the A815. Tree lined pools and glides containing some lovely Brown Trout provide consistent sport. Sea Trout and occasional Salmon are also present in this stretch of river from June onwards following favourable weather conditions.
River Massan - A tributary of the River Echaig located in the scenic Massan Valley. The river provides a variety of pools, glides, broken water, gorges and falls for the angler. There is a healthy population of Brown Trout present. Salmon and Sea Trout are also present in the system from June onwards during spate conditions.
River Finart - A lovely small spate river that runs into Loch Long near Ardentinny. Good fishing exists with some fine pools and runs from the Estuary up to the Warden’s markers. Fishing with a fly is challenging due to overhanging trees and bank side vegetation in some areas. There is a good population of native wild Brown Trout. This river also has good runs of Sea Trout and occasional Salmon following summer rain.
Loch Loskin – A six acre lochan located on the A885 Sandbank Road just outside of Dunoon. Stocked with high quality Brown Trout which supplement indigenous wild fish. Occasional Sea Trout are present in the loch later in the season.
Fly fishing is via boat only and three boats are available. Recommended tactics for this productive loch include slow sinking lines during the early season combined with attractor patterns such as Viva’s, Ace of Spades and Black Tadpoles. On milder days small traditionals such as the Kate McLaren, Zulu, Bibio and Black Pennell can do very well. As the water warms up so the fish start looking up and feeding on terrestrials such as buzzers and midges. This is when a floating line teamed with small buzzers, snatchers, small wet flies or lightly dressed spider patterns can pay dividends. In the evenings some good rises will be seen and fish can be targeted with a well placed dry fly. Drifting along weed beds and the road shore can be very productive. Also worth noting is that later in the season, occasional Sea Trout venture into the loch with good sized fish reported most seasons.

Rivers that give an intimate feel to your fishing, you will fish with delicate casts and hooks no longer or bigger than #10, or when fishing a dropping spate - small tube flies single/doubles, but NO TREBLES.
