Overview

The St. Mungo Parish fishing on the lower part of the river runs through delightful mixed woodland. This single bank fishery is approximately 2 miles long and perfect for fly fishing with lots of fast flowing runs gushing through scattered rocks. As a result the beat is fly only. The wading can be a bit difficult at times, particularly at night, so care should be taken by all anglers unless they want to take an unforeseen swim! As on all rivers it would be prudent to wear some sort of lifevest when deep wading. The owners accept no liability if anglers fail to follow this advice when wading.

The rewards will however be good for those that do venture into pools with apt names like the Dungeon as this water can at times hold a tremendous head of both salmon and sea trout and, generally, is only lightly fished.

Recommended flies

Throughout the season, day or night, and particularly from June to August the Brown Turkey fly is traditionally best for Sea Trout and Salmon. The size can vary for size 6 by night to size 16 by day.

The Waddington or Tube Fly tied in the colours of a Garry Dog namely Brown and Orange or Brown and Yellow is recommended. The size to vary from 2 1/2 inches to 1 1/2 inches, depending on the height of the river. The best months for this fly are March and April in early season and October and November at the end of the season.
