This is one of the top Tweed beats and often achieves the highest catches per rod fished in Scotland.
The beat starts about two miles below Kelso and continues for another two miles to its bottom point at the junction with the Eden Water. The fishing varies from the long streams at the top of the beat, through the deep Sprouston Dub to the fast waters immediately below the cauld at Banff Mill.
Only two rods are allowed to fish at a time and each is looked after by one of the two gillies provided. The water is split into two beats which are fished on alternate days in rotation with Sprouston opposite. The two rods are thus able to fish one mile of what is in effect double bank fishing at a time. Boats are provided and there is a hut on each of the top and bottom beats.
Due to the owner's decision to restrict rod numbers to two, there is more fishing available to each rod than almost any other beat on lower Tweed. This and the expert gillie provided for each rod makes the beat so appealing to tenants.
Normally there are two boatmen provided, however, from 5th June to the end of July there is only one and he may spend some of his time doing beat maintenance. Anyone who requires more help during this period should contact this office prior to booking.
