The quality of the sea trout and salmon fishing on the Amhuinnsuidhe Castle Estate is unsurpassed. There are nine separate fresh water loch and river systems of which Loch Voshimid is the most famous, all in remote and beautiful surroundings, the haunt of golden eagles and red deer. Most fishermen who come to Amhuinnsuidhe return year after year.
Except when the rivers are in spate most of the fishing is done Hebridean fashion from a boat. There are five resident ghillies to look after guests, and their company and knowledge are a major factor in the enjoyment of the day. Fishing is fly only and 'dapping', given the right conditions, can be most effective. Spinning and trolling are not permitted.
The big sea trout start to run in June, with the salmon a week or two later. Weights are comparable with those found in similar waters in Scotland and Ireland, while numbers are generally greater. Sea trout average 1lb 8oz, with salmon averaging 5lbs, although, increasingly, salmon of up to 15lbs are being caught. The heaviest salmon taken from the Amhuinnsuidhe fishery is 23lbs and the heaviest sea trout 11lbs.
Weather and availability of staff permitting, excellent sea fishing is also available to those staying at Amhuinnsuidhe Castle Estate. A launch is available for this purpose as well as for sea trips and visits to nearby islands and beaches.
