Overview

MONALTRIE This is a three mile stretch of the river skirting Ballater, on the LEFT bank, in beautiful surroundings and where you will find the famous pools of  Lodge, Bumblebee, Garden, Mitchell, Red Brae, Kate and Glashan to name but a few. There are also many other easily fished pools and exciting fly fishing runs. There is ample fishing for three rods.

Two new huts are now in place at Garden and Mitchell.

Much of the beat is reachable by car although a 4x4 is an advantage.

The beat offers quiet peaceful fishing and a great place to enjoy a relaxing holiday. Most clients are regulars and some are third generation. The beat are always ready to greet new anglers whether beginners or those looking for a change of scene and have a ready supply of rods, waders and equipment for hire. Ghillies are shared on the beats or can be hired for one to one companionship or help by arrangement.

LOWER INVERCAULD Three rods enjoy an exceptional length of fishing at around seven miles long. There is a comfortable newly restored luncheon hut and the beat enjoys exceptional scenery typical of the Upper Dee. There is a great variety of pools throughout the system and there is usually plenty of fishing available independent of water height. Amongst the many famous pools are Boat, Shenval, Polslacke, Coynach, Polmahalmick, A93, Firpark, Brochroy, Jock Robertson and Manse. The beats run on the LEFT bank from Balmoral bridge down to the confluence of the Gairn.

Ghillies are shared as with Monaltrie and can be hired for extra help by arrangement.

Guidance notes. All anglers are asked to wear a floatation device and to consider carefully the health and safety advice given on arrival including the recommendations of the River Dee Code, especially the spraying and sterilising of waders and other equipment as deemed necessary. The latter will be carried out by the beat ghillie before fishing commences
