Hello my name is Jackie Mahon. Fly fishing has been a strong passion of mine since a very young age. I am from a family of fisherman and as they say its in my blood. A big part of my childhood was spent chasing wild brown trout and salmon on the Garavogue river in Sligo. On my fishing journey i represented my country on an international level and also guided and tyed the winning flies for the Irish team which helped them achieve a gold medal on Lough Melvin in June 2020. I am a full time guide on the west coast of Ireland. I offer guiding on Lough Arrow and Lough Melvin.
Lough Arrow is known for its beauty and by far one of the most beautiful fishing spots with brown trout averaging from 2lb and fish up to 6lb are taking on the fly annually. Lough Arrow is a limestone Lough which is incredibly rich and mainly spring fed. Lough arrow fishes from the 1st of April until the 30th of September. Lough Arrow has a variety of fishing from
- Duckfly
- Olives
- Mayfly
- Sedge
Lough Melvin is located between Leitrim (Ireland) and Northern Ireland. Lough Melvin holds a variety of trout including brown trout, gillaroo and sonaghan which are unique to the lake. The gillaroo are found close to the rocky shores and the sonaghan can be caught anywhere in deep water.
On an average guiding day, the aim is to catch all three species, which you would call the treble.
