Fortwilliam is a privately owned rural Estate located close to the historic small town of Lismore on a beautiful Munster stretch of the River Blackwater in Co. Waterford.
Central to the property is Fortwilliam House built in the Tudor Revival Style in 1840 by John Gumbleton. The Estate is a working in hand farm with rich productive soils supporting tillage and cattle enterprises set in glorious surroundings with parkland trees and overlooking the River Blackwater.
There is 2.5 miles of double bank, sustainable fishing, carefully maintained and managed to offer enthusiasts and newbies a great experience. There are three beats:
Ellis - the home beat, comfortable hut, easy access, with boat to enjoy double bank richly flowing waters.
Bishops - Great variety of fishing spots from both banks, sometimes you can wade across, new hut and lunch spot.
Glenmore - North bank beat with excellent fly fishing pools, hut and peaceful setting.
There is also the added bonus of 400 acres of private natural surroundings. Investment in the fishing now allows vehicle access to all the beats on the river banks, along with pool enhancement and new fishing lodges. There are 3 delightful holiday cottages and guests have access to the walled garden and Woodland areas to enjoy during their stay as well as the riverbanks .
Fortwilliam was purchased privately by the Evans Bevan Family in 2013 and significant improvements have been made to the fishing and farm as well as refurbishment of the holiday cottages. Fortwilliam is a wonderful place to stay and from which to explore the many pleasures of County Waterford further afield as well as enjoying the superb fishing on the doorstep.
Guides are available and should be booked in advanced. It is highly recommended that guides for those who are new to the Blackwater along with beginners and the less experienced are booked.

Fortwilliam is pleased to provide the opportunity to under 16 year olds to fish for free when accompanied by a paying adult.
A casting pond with trout is available to allow visitorst o practise their casting.
