LOW HOUSE ESTATE
The Low House fishery is divided into 3 beats and there are days available on the Armathwaite Beat. Both beats offer fishing for salmon, sea-trout, brown-trout and grayling.
The village of Armathwaite boasts two hotels, a well-equipped village shop which is also the Post Office and is a stop on the Carlisle-Settle railway line. The village is less than 15mins. from the M6 and is equidistant from both Carlisle and Penrith.
Armathwaite Beat
The Armathwaite beat fishing starts just below Armathwaite Bridge and runs for approximately 3/4 mile. The beat can be accessed by car and there is a hut available to all anglers. There are four named pools: Bathing Pool; Low Holme; Linky and Robsons which are best fished by wading, although the top two pools can be fished from the bank. These named pools offer fishing during the entire season.
Priority must be given to fly-fishing but spinning is allowed in coloured water or when the river height is above 1’ on the gauge carved into the bridge. The use of prawns, shrimps and worms is strictly prohibited. The favoured fly is a Cascade although other patterns can be as effective and it is advisable to carry a long rod to ensure that the water is adequately covered.
