Week comm. 18th September

A very big water week on the Eden with the river peaking at just over 10ft on Wednesday. By Sunday the water had dropped to 3’6ft and running a nice tinted colour, no fish reported but quite a few seen moving.

With rain on the upper Eden yesterday it has rose the river to 5ft and still rising, it may get to 6ft.

At this time of year I’m a big fan of 18lb tippet , if you hook a fish that has been running you can quickly get it into the net without worrying about your line snapping, and also if you come across one of the big resident crocs (yes they are there) it’s strong enough for them.

For the coming week it looking a little dryer with only heavy showers but some strong winds so pack the skagit lines and shooting heads for fly fishing.

I’d suggest Toby’s and flying Cs for the next few days and then Red Devils, and francis's  on sink tips. Also, the Meadow Pool at Eden Lacy is definitely worth a visit and several runs through this time of year, fish lie and run on the far bank but in higher water run on the near bank.

Tight lines
