Carloway AC

Carloway Fishery is located in an unspoilt area of the Isle of Lewis within easy access of a number of key attractions including The Callanish Stones and Visitor Centre, Carloway Broch  and Gearrannan Blackhouse Village as well as quiet beaches and coastal walks. There is a variety of accommodation available including within Gearrannan Blackhouse Village, Doune Braes Hotel and a selection of self-catering properties (see Visit Outer Hebrides).

Urras Oighreachd Chàrlabhaigh (Carloway Estate Trust) is a community land owner on the Isle of Lewis in Scotland. Carloway Estate covers 11,500 acres on the north west coast of the Isle of Lewis, with over 200 crofts spread across the townships of Callanish, Breasclete, Tolsta Chaolais, Doune, Kirivick, Carloway and a number of outlying islands. The estate is home to bird, animal and plant species within fragile habitats of moorland not covered by environmental designations for their protection. The economy and employment of people within the estate is comprised of Harris Tweed production, tourism, home working, employment and self-employment within the construction industry and through the local authority and government agencies, plus a multinational pharmaceutical company.

The current population of the estate is approximately 550 of which about 60% are Gaelic speaking. There is one school on the estate, Bun-Sgoil Bhreascleit, which provides Gaelic and English medium pre-school and primary Education. There is a high level of volunteering amongst the population with a number of community groups and clubs active in the Breasclete and Carloway communities.
