The Cortachy beat extends over 2 miles of double-bank water for 2 rods.
The beat comprises Boundary/Sawmill Dam, Castle and Meetings beat and comprises pools including the well renowned Sawmill Dam and the Meetings Water fishes best in mid to lower water conditions and there is a mix of well defined pools and streamy flows.
Parties should realise that unless they take both rods, then another rod may fish at the same time.
In light of Storm Babet in October 2023 which caused significant damage to some of the beats, the price per rod has been reduced for this year. The prices are £30 per rod per day until 31st May and £40 from 1st June - 31st October 2024. All pools are accessible.
Fishers should also note that there is a 3rd rod in place throughout the season for use by the Castle tenant/guest.
Fishing is by fly only.
Please note that the Pylons, Castle Stream and Willows pools are NOT available during 2024 fishing season.
Conservation Measures.
In keeping with the Esk District Salmon Fishery Board recommendations, please note the following:
Please note that for the period 16th February - 15 June ALL salmon, sea trout, and grilse are to be returned.
If absolutely necessary, then the practice of killing the second fish and fourth fish etc, should be adopted between the 16 June to 30 June for salmon, and throughout the season for seatrout.
This decision has been made by the Esk District Salmon Fishery Board in an effort to conserve spring salmon stock. During this period, if a badly hooked or bleeding fish cannot be returned, it will remain the property of the estate, and must be handed in to the Estate Office.
SEA TROUT -Total Catch and Release encouraged throughout the season
Barbless single or double hooks only for the entire season. Treble hooks are not permitted. All seatrout over 2lbs are to be returned
