Aperçu

Axwell Park and Derwent Valley Angling Association has access to approx. 4.5 miles of Brown Trout and Grayling fishing on the Lower River Derwent, which is itself a tributary of the River Tyne. The fishing stretches from Lintzford downstream through Rowlands Gill, Gibside Estate,Thornley Woods, Winlaton Mill and finishes at Swalwell road bridge.

The river has excellent stocks of wild Brown Trout which are supplemented throughout the season. The river also has an increasing stock of Grayling which is now well established throughout the length of the river. The river valley hosts a diverse range of wildlife including otters and kingfishers, as well as being the only site in the north of England where Red Kites have successfully been re-introduced.

Fishing is available either as a day or season ticket.

Axwell Park and Derwent Valley Angling Association seeks to improve and develop angling facilities in the Derwent Valley for its members and the community. It also seeks to cater for those who genuinely care for their locality, enjoy being involved in a river, and who appreciate a sport that affords them an opportunity to enjoy a beautiful valley whilst meeting those interesting challenges angling has to offer.
