Bandley beat is located in the middle section of the river just below the town of Alford. The beat has 7 main pools of various depths which include the famous Bandley pools. Various runs and glides more suited to the trout angler can be found throughout the water.
Spring salmon appear in the pools from mid February, but April and May provide the best spring fishing. Summer fish and grilse can be landed from July through to September before the autumn fish appear giving good sport through until the season ends. Dry fly fishing for wild brown trout fishing can be very productive throughout April, May and June with fish up to 4lbs regularly hooked. Nymphing in the faster runs is a popular method in the summer months.
The fishing is very accessible however some wading is required on some pools, the average width of the river being approximately 25 yards.
Only fly fishing is permitted and anglers must adhere to the Don District Salmon Fishery Board's conservation policy.
