Mountblairy beat offers 4 rods on approx 2 miles of bank with approx half mile of double bank. There are 3 fishing huts for the use of fishermen. The beat contains 15 pools with good access for most. The Upper Beat is accessed through Mountblairy Home Farm and hardcore field tracks provide vehicle access to most of UpperBeat.
The Lower Beat does not have vehicle access and must be accessed via a walking route through fields and woodland.
The Deveron is currently under Category 2 restrictions, so catch and release is highly promoted.
Fishing must also be conducted in line with the Deveron River Board's Angling Code for Salmon & Trout which is available in all huts and is sent out with fishing packs.
There are also a range of walks on the Mountblairy Estate which fishermen are welcome to use. The Estate can also offer self catering accommodation at Ivy Cottage on the Mountblairy Estate which sleeps 4 and has a secure garage for fishing gear. This would be booked directly through the Estates Office.
Mountblairy is where Clementina "Tiny" Morison, in 1924, caught the largest fly caught Salmon in the UK. It weighed in at 61lb.
It was caught in the Lower Shaws pool and there is a stone erected there in memory of the feat.
The Deveron also runs annually the Morison Trophy competition for the largest fly caught Salmon each season which is a highly sought after prize.
