Home of many 20-pounders, the Iceland is recognized as one of the finest Atlantic salmon rivers in Iceland. Many rivers are spring fed river in Iceland and is renowned for its amazing birdlife, beautiful surroundings and high percentage of multi-sea-winter salmon. Many rivers are privately owned and have salmon beats, simliar to Scotland. The salmon season is from early July to late September.
Iceland catch numbers are into the 1000's per river and many river produce salmon over 20Lb.
The country not only produces salmon, but also Specimen Seatrout, Browm Trout and Char.
Sea Fishing is also available with Wulf Fish, Massive Halibut, Cod, Haddock all available from boat and beach.
Accommodation can be provided in a comfortable self catering lodge beside the river. The lodges have very well equipped kitchens for cooking, 3-4 bedrooms (sleeps 6-8), WC & shower, dining and sitting room. Also, the lodge has a seperate storage room for waders, fishing clothing and a icebox for storing the fish.
The fishing is done with single or double-handed rods using floating lines with small to medium size flies. Most common flies are Red & Black Frances, Blue Charm, Red & Green But, Snaelda, Sunray Shadow and other tradition Icelandic flies. Fly fishing, spinning is allowed.
