1. Fishing will be with fly only. THERE WILL BE NO SPINNING AT ANY TIME DURING THE SEASON.
2. The Estate upholds the Spey Fishery Board Conservation Policy. This can be viewed on the Spey Fishery Board website www.speyfisheryboard.com
3. The proprietors of Knockando Estate, support ongoing liaison with canoeists and white water rafters and their industry associations in order to encourage responsible use of the River Spey by all users. A voluntary Code of Practice exists between the Scottish Canoe Association and proprietors on the River Spey, setting out how both anglers and other water users should act and the Estate Ghillies can provide more information if any anglers are in doubt. The Estate considers that such arrangements are in the best interests of the fishing on the River Spey and all tenants are asked to behave responsibly towards other water users.
4. Periods of fishing will normally encompass two parts of the day, ie morning and afternoon or morning and evening or such other variation as may be agreed between the tenant and ghillie. It would be appreciated if arrival at the river could be about 9am in order to allow the ghillies time to deal with their chores. If tenants wish to undertake Night Fishing, they must make the ghillie aware of their plans and accept his decision if it is felt that conditions for night fishing are unsafe. Torches should be carried at all times.
5. Knockando Estate would encourage all tenants to be aware of the dangers of fly hooks and wherever possible ask that tenants wear eye protection and if possible a peaked cap.
6. The Knockando and Lower Pitchroy Beats will not be fished with more than four rods and the Phones Beat with not more than three rods.
7. The tenant is strongly advised to ensure that he/she and his/her party will use suitable life jackets and take all usual precautions bearing in mind that fishing related activities such as wading, standing on the river banks and using a boat can be dangerous. Knockando Estate can provide life jackets, but tenants should be aware that there will be a charge of £25.00 to recharge the life jacket in the event of inflation.
8. The tenant will also be responsible for ensuring that the tenant and each member of his or her party has public liability insurance for not less than one million GBP.
9. The tenant and his or her party will be expected to behave in a sportsmanlike manner and have due regard and respect for the fishings and the property of the Proprietor. Guests are particularly reminded that inappropriate consumption of alcohol can be dangerous in or near a river, and ghillies are instructed that anyone considered not capable of fishing safely will, at the ghillie’s absolute discretion, be asked to retire from the river.
10. Fires will not be lit.
11. In the event of any dispute at the river, the decision of the ghillie will prevail but in the event of dissatisfaction the matter should be referred to the Estate Factor whose decision will be final.
12. Tenants are urged to contact directly the appropriate ghillie for the beat on which they will be fishing at least two weeks prior to fishing commencing, and to confirm any relevant arrangements.
13. Trout fishing continues to be made available to local residents. However, this is only done in liaison with the relevant ghillie – and then only when salmon fishing is not taking place – as follows: Phones: Station and Mother & Child Pools Lower Pitchroy: Polarder (Burn Mouth) and Greenbank Knockando: Tail of Poleek to Neck of Vrennan Trout fishermen will not be permitted to wade and a maximum of two trout fishers only will be allowed at any time. Permission to fish for trout will in all instances be at the discretion of the ghillie concerned. It has been emphasised that salmon fishing should not be disturbed.
