The Deveron ranks fifth in Scotland in the number of fish caught annually, and holds the record for the UK's heaviest fly-caught salmon. There are 24 named pools on the estate, covering approximately two and a half miles of river - all double-bank fishing. The beat is excellent fly water, with a good variation of pools and rapids. The River Isla joins the Deveron at one of the best pools at Avochie, the Junction Pool.

There are two large fishing huts - complete with wood burning stoves, brew-up facilities, separate rod rooms and toilets - and two storm shelters. The river offers unrestricted access along the entire beat, and there is good vehicular access along most of it.
The Deveron is currently under category 2 restrictions, so catch and release is highly promoted. Fishing must also be conducted in line with the Deveron river boards angling code for salmon and trout, which is available in all huts and is sent with fishing packs.
The Estate lies within the 'Castle Country' of Aberdeenshire; many outstanding houses are open to the public, and a 'Castle Trail' has been established by the Scottish Tourist Board. The heartland of Scottish Whisky production lies just to the west, on Speyside, and many distilleries welcome visitors. The region abounds with places of scenic beauty and interest, including picturesque fishing villages on the Moray Firth, twenty minutes to the north.

Avochie Estate is situated deep in the rolling country of northern Aberdeenshire, some six miles north of Huntly.

The Salmon and sea trout fishing’s comprise over two and a half miles of the famous River Deveron.
