Visión general

The Abercorn Estates fishery on the River Mourne has been a well kept secret. With the only people fortunate enough to have enjoyed sport on this water have been a small local syndicate and a few anglers who know about it.

The estate, otherwise known as the Baronscourt Fishery, is a real fishermans river, and comprises four beats with over 24 named pools. The fishing is let by the beat, with a maximum of 2 rods per beat. A beat rotation system is in operation.

It is fly only and wading is essential. Guests fishing Abercorn for the first time are obliged to use the services of a ghillie.

The Pools. There is direct access to the Estate water which comprises of four beats with over 24 named pools.

Beats 1 and 2 on the River Mourne include the most renowned and famous pool the "Snaa" which is similar in appearance to "Junction" on the River Tweed. Other pools such as "Carnaquin", "Toby" and "Derg Hole" offer fabulous lies.

Beats 3 and 4 on the Rivers Derg and Strule offer great pools such as "The Half Water", and "Blackstone" which are every bit as good as anywhere else on the system, each beat offering exciting sport.

There is good variation of pools, most of the fishing is done from the left bank, spey casting is not essential. This high quality fishery also enjoys excellent access to the river with 2 fishing huts, 1 WC and car parking. Expert advice is provided by the Estate's ghillie.

Lettings. The fishing is let to clients on a daily basis. There are 2 rods available each day on each beat. At some times of the year a minimum number of days will be required.

Accommodation. Self-catering accommodation is available (for a minimum 3 night stay) on the Estate just 10 minutes drive from the fishery, subject to availability. River Mourne Cottage (3 double rooms self catering), The Cedar Country Hotel (12 rooms B&B or half board) and Finn Valley Cottage (6 double rooms self catering) are also close by.

This is one of the very few "fly only" private beat based fisheries in Ireland. Fishing is allowed on Sundays unlike in Scotland.
