CULIFF ROCK FISHING RULES

• Location and Access. Do not, under any circumstance, use the private car park beside the river in Movanagher Road - park in Movanagher Road or, on the Antrim side, use the public car park by the Fish Farm.
• Limits to Fishing - From a line between the notice and the white painted mark just upstream of Culiff Rock, downstream to Carnroe Weir. The stretch from this line upstream to Movanagher Weir is the preserve of the Movanagher beat and must not be encroached upon.
• Methods Permitted: - The aim of "catch and release" is to ensure that any salmon caught are released in as healthy a state as possible. We have therefore drawn up catch and release guidelines (copy attached). In summary, worming is no longer permitted for the catching of salmon and Flying Cs cannot be used. Anglers may continue to spin using other methods such as Spoons, Mepps, etc, but only with single hooks, preferably with the barbs removed. Prawning (using a single hook) and fly fishing (barbless singles) are also acceptable methods. We will monitor results and may make adjustments, if necessary.
• All trout below 10" must be returned - worming is prohibited.
• Bank Fishing - fly fishing and spinning from the Londonderry bank.
• Wading - very limited opportunity for wading which can be dangerous and should only be undertaken by those who know the area well enough.
• Boat fishing - the fishing is part boat fishing. The two Company boats are moored immediately below Movanagher lock, and may be used by anglers if they do not have their own. Please respect the oars and boats, which can be easily damaged.
• Date/Time of Fishing - 1st May - 15th October, from 8.00 a.m. to 10.30 p.m. or dusk, whichever is earlier.
• Fishing Stations - Agreement should be reached at the start of the session so that anglers are given the opportunity to fish the various stations. Should agreement not be reached then lots will be drawn. The ghillie’s decision will be final.
• Record of Catch/Release - A return of all fish released must be made to the office at the end of the season.
• Bag Limit - No salmon may be killed and "catch and release" must be used, with single, barbless hooks. These rules must be obeyed.
• Maggot fishing is prohibited.
• Behaviour - In the event of unsportsmanlike behaviour on the part of any angler, The Honourable The Irish Society reserves the right to disqualify that angler from future visits to the Fishery.
• WARNING - AS THE LOWER BANN IS A DEEP RIVER WITH VARIABLE WATER LEVELS, WE MUST POINT OUT THAT ANGLERS FISH AT THEIR OWN RISK AND MUST BRING, AND WEAR, LIFEJACKETS.
