Meggernie is towards the top end of Glen Lyon (west end) and the fishings are part of an Estate extending to some 18,600 acres on which there are mixed farming, forestry and sporting enterprises. The sport includes red deer stalking, rough shooting, loch and river fishing. About eighteen families live on the Estate. Glen Lyon is reputedly the longest, loneliest and loveliest glen in Scotland
The hub of the Estate is perhaps the small community of Bridge of Balgie where there is a Post Office, shop and tea-room as well as an arts and crafts shop. The beauty of the area attracts relatively big numbers of day visitors during the months of better weather and to add to their enjoyment the Estate is doing much to provide attractive walks and parking facilities.
The river running through the Estate provides some exceptionally attractive scenery and it has to be admitted that many of the present fishing tenants who have been returning for many years come to enjoy the scenery and tranquillity.
Meggernie has a self-catering cottage, Gatehouse which is situated at Bridge of Balgie and right on the bank of the river. Two twin bedrooms, oil fired central heating, fully equipped with adequate parking and storage. Linen provided. Dogs allowed by prior approval.
The fishings are primarily let on a weekly basis but where there is availability, day rods can be purchased.
