The Árbót beat on the Big Laxá river is an extraordinary beat with great character and offers an excellent option for those looking for bigger brown trout and salmon. It is just over two miles long and limited to three rods. It has many beautiful pools that support healthy numbers of both trout and salmon. The season runs from April 1st to September 20th.Trout fishing on Árbót is consistent the whole season but the salmon usually arrive at end of June or the start of July.
Vörðuholt Lodge is an excellent self-catered lodge set on a hillside overlooking the Big Laxa river, some spectacular snowcapped mountains, and the beautiful Aðaldalur valley. There are three rooms with twin beds, as well as a kitchen, living room, dining room, outdoor deck, and hot tub. There are many activities and places of interest to visit for non-anglers, including whale watching, Dettifoss waterfall, Lake Mývatn, horse riding, and river rafting. This makes Árbót the perfect holiday for anglers bringing their families to Iceland.
The package is self-guided and self-catering, and does not include flights to Iceland or transfers. The nearest airport is Akureyri, around 40 minutes drive away, with daily flights to/from Reykjavik. The lodge is approximately 280 miles from Reykjavik, 6 hours drive, if guests prefer to drive directly from the capital. The Árbót beat and Vörðuholt lodge are sold in a minimum of 4-day slots. The entire beat and lodge are always sold together so guests have the whole area and never have to share with another group.
Guests will fish the afternoon slot on the day of arrival, full days on day 2, 3 and 4, and then the morning slot on the day of departure.
