2 beats on the middle/upper Don. Waterside 1.1 miles left bank and Haughton 1.1 miles right bank. For beat maps click on 'Links'
Over two miles of excellent fishing, 10 named pools.
The Haughton beat produced the first salmon caught on the River Don in 2018 season.
Good car parking and access. Great local facilities including accommodation.
Alford Angling Association was formed by a group of enthusiastic residents in 2018 to manage the two beats at Alford, previously run by Aberdeenshire Council.
Permits cover both beats and include fishing on over two miles of the river, with 10 named pools and a great variety of streams and glides offering excellent opportunities for both salmon and brown trout anglers.
Salmon fishing (11 Feb - 31 Oct) is good in favourable water conditions with spring fish running from the start of the season, a summer grilse run from May to August and larger fish towards the end of the season. In 2018, one of the club members, fishing the Haughton beat, caught the first salmon on the whole of the River Don – a 15lb fresh run salmon.
Sea Trout start to appear in June through to the end of the season.
The River Don is internationally renowned for its wild Brown Trout fishing (1 Apr-6 Oct). Spectacular Brownies up to 3lb are not uncommon and much larger ones in excess of 5lb are caught every year.
Sunday fishing is permitted for brown trout only and to encourage junior anglers to take up sport worming is allowed.
