Time for fishing!
This week more things are back open, meaning more chance of getting out fishing and away for a few days - bring it on!
I managed to squeeze in a couple of trips recently to the Tay and the Dee, so nice to be out on the river again and having a cast - boy it's been a long time coming!
A day with Simon Furness on Dunkeld was great fun. Casting a fly from the back of the boat in the Cathedral Stream was just so lovely to do. Anticipation was high and the slowly roped boat down the pool allowed me to cover the pool well, I was expecting my casting to be a tad rusty but it all came back to me fairly quickly. Sadly only a brave brownie felt the urge to take my fly, but just so nice to be out on the river. Popping in to Newtyle and Dalmarnock was great too, two great beats to fish if you get the chance and I'll most certainly be back soon to have a cast there.
I also managed to have a day on both Park North and South under the expert eyes of ghillies Keith and Bert. Two guys who know their beats like the back of their hands and with so much wisdom and advice to offer. Great fun, even if North was a bit high, but South was perfect and whilst I didn't manage a fish, my fishing companion did.
So just great to be back out fishing and with more trips planned over the coming weeks, I am hopeful of getting in almost the springers. Find Fishing.
Thanks for all your ongoing support. The bookings are coming in thick and fast for this season on most rivers, so it certainly looks like you, my fellow anglers, are all as desperate to get back at it as I am!
19th May 2021
An absolutely cracking week for my clients and guests on Altyre Estate for W/C May 10th, with a total of nineteen fresh Spring salmon, with the largest two fish of around 15 lbs, and all fish safely hooked and released! Another ten fish were hooked and lost during the week, so all in all, it was Spring salmon fishing at its very best on the fabulous Findhorn!
It was really heartening to see such a strong run of these fantastic hard fighting Spring salmon, which were literally pouring through the Altyre beats all week - read more.
One hundred and twenty three Salmon and fifteen Sea Trout were landed for the week with the best fish a 24lb Salmon caught on Junction beat. The lift in water has pushed fish up through the system and some are reaching the upper river with Holylee reporting fish on Tuesday - read more.
Above Kelso fifty one fish were reported, between Kelso and Coldstream forty eight and below Coldstream eleven. The best fishing was on the Junction beat and Upper Floors beats where twelve springers were landed - find Tweed fishing.
West Learmouth - Dean made us feel very welcome, a keen ghillie with great knowledge and pleasant manner.
Pedwell - The river conditions were against us on our visit. However Peter Lee, the Ghillie, was welcoming and forthcoming, extremely helpful and particularly attentive to us throughout our stay. He is an exceptionally knowledgeable Ghillie and undoubtedly one we would be very happy to fish with again. One of the best we've had in nearly 30 years of combined salmon fishing experiences.
Lower Pavilion - Great day, no fish caught but not for the want of trying and efforts of gillie to put us on fish.
Hendersyde - Very enjoyable three days with three salmon landed, sadly water ruined third day. Nothing was too much trouble for either Nigel or Ketch.
The brown trout fishing has been very good, with trout in surprisingly good condition following such a hash winter. Members picked away at trout up to 2lb mainly on nymphs but the odd one taking a dry - read more.
FishPal caught up with Paul Young last night to celebrate the launch of all his Hooked on Fishing Shows digitally remastered and re-released on Fishing TV.
New to FishPal for 2021 is the great Spring Lakes Trout Fishery in North Yorkshire
within the beautiful Rievaulx Abbey valley.
FishPal's Tom Carter say's "Well worth a trip if you are on holiday in the area or if you just fancy some fun trout fishing."

It was a story of sunshine and showers last week as low pressure was firmly in control of our weather. There were plenty of slow moving heavy showers and this led to unsettled river levels for much of the week. Needless to say, that unsettled water does not make for great salmon fishing conditions. Despite this, the Tay system continued to produce some stunning spring sparklers - read more.
With some decent availability on the river, next week why not wet a line on one of Scotland's most prolific salmon rivers in the upcoming days? You might just end May on a high by landing some sparkling River Tay spring silver. Find fishing.
Kercock - Very much enjoyed our trip to Kercock. Weather reasonable, and water heights and conditions very good. Sadly no fish caught by anyone on that day, Gillie (Gary Halpin) very friendly and helpful. This was our second visit to Kercock in the last couple of years. Definitely worth a return visit.
Meikleour Fishing - Great day on a fantastic beat - shame nothing landed on our day out but still a thrill to fish here. I'll be back.
Loch Broom - A good day out wonderful scenery and interesting scenery and very good hard fighting wee fish.
Derek Wright at Cairnton & Middle Blackhall
This week has seen the highest number of Salmon this season, with over sixty on seventeen beats all along the river. Banchory had their best week with eight Salmon and three Sea Trout, and Headinch and Cambus also had eight fish this week. We had a cracking 19lb fish on Cairnton & Middle Blackhall, the largest of the season on the Dee so far. There was a lot to report on and I hope you enjoy the round up here - read more.
Now that the weather is getting warmer, this is the time to book your summer fishing. There is plenty of availability on FishDee and so please book your day, and we look forward to seeing you on the Dee - find fishing.
Kincardine - Perfect conditions, one salmon, approx 10lbs, complete with sea lice. Good to see some bank reinforcing been done to slow down further flood erosion.
Birse - Drew was extremely helpful to all the party from the least experienced to the most experienced among us. His knowledge of the beat and his advice to our group, who had never fished here before, was detailed and extensive. This made the day more enjoyable and we all had a great day on the beat.
Park - Great day out and a great ghillie in Keith. Very helpful and willing you to get a fish. There is a variety of pools to suit all casting abilities.
