Newsletter No 28

August 2020

Traditionally, August sees us taking a break from work and heading off to new places, exploring, relaxing or catching up with family and friends. This summer, although travel restrictions are beginning to lift, it's going to be a staycation rather than a vacation for many of us, so let's make the most of it!

River Tweed. Three hundred and sixteen Salmon and seventy four Sea Trout were landed for the week with the best fish of 25lb Salmon caught on the Birgham Dub beat - read more.

River Dee. Ended the week with one hundred and twenty-five fish, but it should have been much more. There were fish running all week and we remain in good shape.

River Tay. In spite of the unsettled water, which was coloured at times, there were good numbers of fish landed - read more.

Day 2 sees Robson move location to another of Iceland's iconic rivers, the West Ranga. Here the river is much wider, allowing Robson to use a double handed fly rod to cover more water on the famous Home Pool. After seeing a fish follow his fly, Robson persists and is soon into a strong salmon which is certainly double figures - watch.

Earlier this week Mark handed a cheque for £2,218 to Luke Comins, director of The Tweed Forum. This money is from angler donations when making a booking on the FishPal Tweed site.

Luke said "This valuable contribution will go towards Tweed Forum's habitat enhancement work that helps protect and enhance the building blocks of the fishery. Tweed Forum has planted well over 1 million trees, restored miles of river through fencing off livestock and re-meandering important nursery streams. This will help increase resilience against the impacts of flooding and droughts, as well improving water quality and the supply of food that fish feed on. For more information visit Tweed Forum or watch this short film.
