Yesterday's Catches - Today's River Levels - Tomorrow's Availability

Newsletter No 12 (Mar 2020)

It is fair to say that everyone in the fishing world and indeed beyond has been impacted as the government moves to total lockdown for everyone other than "essential workers". This means that no one should be out fishing at all!

I have had many a conversation since about the logic or common sense of being out in the fresh air etc, but the bottom line is that no one is allowed to go fishing until we are through this next three week lockdown period. We wait to see if restrictions are lifted or continued for a further period.

The office is hugely busy right now trying to make sure anglers are rebooked on dates later in the season. If you need help or advice with this and you haven't already been in touch with us then can I ask you to email [email protected] so we can help answer your questions.

If you are an owner/manager reading this we need your specific instructions on rebooking of clients and would appreciate you contacting us as soon as possible either via [email protected] or on the office number 01573 470612.

I have had to restrict the opening hours on the telephone from 10am to 2pm so we can respond to the volume of enquires we are currently experiencing, so please do bear with us.

Thank you for the comments and compliments from so many of you for everything the team are doing right now to help, this means a lot and we really do care.

Keep close to our Facebook page too please. The team and I will be recording a daily message and will answer some of the most frequently asked questions coming in.

We are in lockdown mode and the advice is to stay at home and keep yourself and others safe in doing so, it's not easy I know, as like you I would like nothing better than to be out on the river, but I'm afraid not yet, soon hopefully, but definitely not yet. We all need to comply and do our bit.

Watch out for a new competition and features coming to you via Facebook which will help keep you busy during this lockdown period. I think you're going to like it!

Stay safe everyone and thanks.

Sandy Datta at the weekend with a fine Tay Springer.

Loch Tay continued its run of good form producing some cracking fish in recent days before the shut down, including a fish weighing well in excess of thirty pounds.

It was a magical day on Saturday for young Lewis Blair who was fishing on the Glendelvine Beat. Lewis caught a fin perfect spring salmon weighing seven pounds. It is so good to see our younger generation getting into our sport and I am sure Lewis is now hooked - read more.

Eugene Burzler and James Stokoe fished Altyre Estate water last week and had a trip of a lifetime. They were coming to the end of their first day and fishing the last pool when Eugene hooked into a 30lb plus fish. All he saw was a boil, a large tail coming out of the water and then the fish hugged the bottom of the pool for about 20 minutes. The first time they saw her coming to the net they didn't think she was going to fit into it.

Anglers from across the globe have commented saying that it is probably a multi spawner and more than likely never seen a fly before. For Eugene the safe return was paramount. He said "I feel humbled and blessed to see a fish like this, she is a special lady".

At around the same time on the opposite bank a fish of around 20lb was caught by David Stewart-Howitt on the Meads of St. John at Darnaway.

The following day James fished the same pool and caught his first Scottish salmon.
