Yesterday's Catches - Today's River Levels - Tomorrow's Availability

Newsletter No 3 (Jan 2020)

Welcome to this weeks newsletter.

It's a crisp, cold, winters day here in the UK. This time last year we had weather warnings across England and Wales and up to 10cm of snow.

During the last year we have added a weather page to the new FishPal site so you can track cloud, rain and wind as well as river levels.

Everyone at FishPal goes fishing and we appreciate that you need the latest, up to date information and news before you decide which river and beat you decide to fish.

If like us at FishPal you are itching to cast a line this year, whatever species, please call the office Monday to Friday 9am-5pm on 01573 470612. Alternatively visit the FishPal website for news and information on over 800 fisheries covering the UK, Iceland and Norway. Fishing permits can be purchased online 24/7.

We are looking to widen our river reports in 2020, if you would like to be part of our team we would love to hear from you. You can contact us at [email protected] or call the office on 01573 470612.

All Change On Deeside

FishDee | Salmon Trout Loch Fishing| Fishing Permits | Tackle Shops | Where To Stay |Contact: 01573 470612

Jordie Sinclair is the new ghillie on Lower Blackhall and Banchory.

There has been something of a ‘ghillie-go-round' on Deeside during the close season. Brian Brogan has returned to Cairnton and Middle Blackhall, while Terry Paton has moved up to Aboyne Castle and Craigendinnie where he takes over from Will Peake. Most recently, Daniel Wright has joined Lower Crathes as under-ghillie.

The biggest change on the river must be the merging of Lower Blackhall & Kinneskie and Banchory into a one double bank beat for up to six rods. The merging of the two beats follows discussions between proprietors Lawrence Ross and Mike Wilson. The new beat combines good early spring fishing with summer salmon and grilse, which will be an enticing prospect for visiting and local anglers - read more.

Salmon Recognition

The early part of the season kelts can be commonly mistaken for a fresh run salmon and this week we've seen some well mended kelts caught on the Tay. Kelts must be returned unharmed to the water.

Peter Dobson with Sam & Sandy Datta and Andy Gunn on Newtyle Beat

The first fish off Taymount looked a superb specimen and was in perfect condition. There would have definitely been more fish caught from the river on opening day if the conditions had been a bit more favourable. Unfortunately, more wet weather affected much of Perthshire on Thursday and this led to even higher river levels and this put pay to any meaningful fishing on many beats.

Mr Peter Dobson who turns 80 this year from Blackburn in Lancashire opened Newtyle beat. This year will be his 50th year fishing on the Tay.

Conditions this week look much more promising. Coupar Grange, Taymount, Dalmarnock and Newtyle caught fish yesterday up to 18lb - latest catches.

With 63 salmon fisheries on FishTay there is something for all abilities and budgets. Latest Fishing. Give the office a call on 01573 470612 or email [email protected] if your looking for guided fishing, recommendations and places to stay.
